Chemistry is one of the five departments at Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL). The department comprise of three (3) sections namely;

Acaricide Chemistry, Toxicology and Ethnoveterinary.

Toxicology section deals with research on toxicological agents and plants; it is also responsible for testing of toxicological samples.

Acaricide chemistry is responsible for doing research on acaricides and related subjects, also deals with routine analysis of different acaricide formulations, testing of dip wash strengths and monitoring including quality control of acaricides. The section is also responsible for training on acaricide chemistry and dip management.

Ethnoveterinary section does research on medicinal plants/agents and indigenous knowledge. The section also maintains a Botanical Garden at CVL for some plants with medicinal importance.
